I think it is a cleverly conceived plan using optics to make the viewer believe that the players are much smaller. Or to make them believe the players are younger. In either case, the shorts are out of proportion to the normal size person. Me, I prefer the team play of old school.

The yellow shorts are way too high up on the waist. Not cool unless you see some undies.
