Nyiart

she calls this abstract art only prettier. I would agree.

running some more.....

Ran the 400 meter this morning... here's the start, middle and finish in which I felt like I was giving it a bit of a kick...clearly does not translate to video. We gave you a bit of grass and shoes at the end for your viewing enjoyment.

When I watch these, it seems like I am going in slo mo. But I did it in 2:18 - fastest yet. Still a ways to go, but making progress.

Really, California?

I just do not get why it is so important for some people to tell other people how they should live!

My daughter, Goldie, is so very eloquent. She wrote this in her blog yesterday:

california broke my heart

Speaking in stereotypes:
California, you must be a woman.
You sit and look pretty.
You shine with your sun.
You feed me with your produce.
You bear children with your population.
Then you feed those children with your produce and you shine.
Despite being overworked, over-tilled and overpopulated.

Speaking in stereotypes:
California, you must be a woman.
You give me options
(Yes on Prop H8. No on Prop H8.)
And despite what we know is right, you do what’s wrong.
Despite what’s fair, you go the other way.
You fickle, moody woman.
Running on emotions.

California, you must be a woman.
And seeing as you are a woman, even if I wanted to….
I couldn’t marry you.

Even though I’ve been with you all of my life...
I couldn’t marry you.
California. Even though I love you with all of my heart and even though I will never leave...even though I will raise our children here and tell them not to leave either because no one will ever treat them as well…even though I tried by voting NO ON 8.
I can’t marry you.

California. You keep breaking my heart.

check it out

Do you see that yellow light at about the 5:00 point? That is the dreaded check engine light.

It is an automatic $175 just to check it out.
Fixing it is on top of that.
For me, for today, the fixing it up part costs upwards of $350 just to get that light to go out.
Doesn't it seem a bit suspect to you?
A light all of the sudden goes on
and money all of the sudden goes out.
I asked them if they had a remote control
that they use
if we don't visit them enough
or if they sense that we just might have some bucks in the pocket.
They said no.
I, for one, am not so sure.

dirt is dirt

I felt great today, so great, in fact, that I felt like planting flowers. We have a few containers in the backyard that were beckoning... so off to Target, bought hecka geraniums of all shapes and colors, some cherry tomatoes, and for the garden - two lantana and two marigolds for good measure. And some dirt.. good dirt: organic + miracle gro (tho not sure how that is possible).
Planted them all....

Was cleaning up and read the back of the dirt bag. What the heck????

too late.

Twice Pissed

Actually #2 was that Adam did not win AI - what a travesty. America screws it up again!

First pissed - before AI came on, I got on my computer and on my Google browser page were the AI results!!!!

Twice a bummer!

I have to say that, other than the last 2 minutes, the show was great!

it's so hot in here

Last weekend I did not do much at all.

That was because the sun did not look like this...

Instead, it looked (and felt) like this...

Fortunately for me and for anyone else who is not a fan of flippin hot weather

we have the blessedness of this bay area phenomenon which showed up on Monday.

ahhhh

and baby makes three

C and I went to a shower today for some friends of my son. They are due in about 10 days. The gifts were to be books as she is an English teacher. Of course, I did have to make a quilt but we also included a book. Here is the front and back of the quilt...

The book we gave is Mother Earth and Her Children - it is an old story that a quilter memorialized in an amazing and award winning quilt that she made in rememberance of her son.

Today was a VERY hot day. As I remember it, their wedding was on a VERY hot day. I do hope for her that the rest of her pregnancy days are not so hot.

Anyway, I would post pictures of her and the quilt, but she did not open her gifts at the shower. Must be a generational thing.

Mom's Day

This is C & her daughter L.

This is O & her daughter N.

I gave these framed pictures to them for Mother's Day. The dresses were for Easter when C and O were in kindergarten and first grade. I had put them away in my hope chest. This year they fit the grands.

reefer art

At one time in my life, I sold tvs and appliances - I did not break any sales records, but I did learn that, in the biz, refrigerators were called reefers (a term I was already quite familiar with anyway but, of course, in a much different context, time and place). My reefer today...

Of course, the ubiquitous list,
with the always effective memory tool:

Put all together and it looks like this.....

(not to mention a grandmom) can be

only drug I take

I saw this guy work out,
the beer, green or otherwise, had absolutely NO ill effects...

CrossFit Qualifiers

Yesterday, I went to the CrossFit Qualifiers which are the preliminary heats to qualify for the CrossFit games that are in July. Two people from my gym entered. JD and Justin.

This is JD (after the first workout)

This is Justin (Before the first Workout)

Both are great athletes. JD works out with his fiance, Natty. Both JD and Natty are terrific people, fun to work out with and great team players.

Justin is one of the incredible trainers at CFV. More than that, he is such an awesome supporter. He is always there, teaching, coaching, urging, helping, caring and cheering. I could not have done some of the stuff that I do if it was not for Justin. It was an honor to be able to support and cheer for him for a change.

The workouts were tough. There were two workouts:

Workout A*For time (10 minute cap):
  • Row 500m
  • 30 Burpees
  • 10 Shoulder-to-Overhead (Men: 165#, Women: 95#)

Workout B Max reps in 10 minutes of (must do 10 of each to qualify):

  • Muscle-Up
  • Ground-to-Shoulder (Male: 185#, Female: 105#)
Both JD and Justin represented CFV incredibly well - they both finished the first one in the time alloted. On the second, their individual strengths showed up - JD on the lifting and Justin on the Muscle-Ups. Here is a short video of Justin doing a few of the amazing number of muscle ups that he did.

Crossfit Vallejo came out in strength to support them both.

Congratulations Justin and JD!!!
